Spicy, salty, sticky….Unapologetically bold dishes can be found in abundance in San Francisco, spanning across a number of cuisines. Here are the new restaurants that pack the biggest flavor punch, to satisfy all cravings.

Barrio Ghiradelli Square

The agave bar and restaurant’s new location is all about acidity and heat. Dishes like halibut and shrimp ceviche and vegan chorizo tacos, packed with pickled onions and chimichurri, deliver a memorable meal. Pair them with tart, punchy cocktails for an especially enjoyable night.

Hetchy's Hots

Super-hot fried chicken? This is what this new casual spot specializes in. The impossibly spicy fried chicken comes dusted in ‘flamin’ hot dust’, tucked into a delicious sandwich. Jalapenos, szechuan spice and other mouth (and mind) numbing ingredients can be added, for the adventurous types.

Ernest

Leave it to this San Francisco newcomer to make you rethink Japanese influences. Expect umeboshi-flavored short ribs, beef tartare with nori, and other complex, umami-packed delicacies. Reservations are hard to score, so plan accordingly.

Anchovy Bar

Bold doesn’t have to mean spicy. At this chic eatery salt rules the palate, with  briny oysters, three different anchovy offerings and other fishy delights. More salt? Order the Smoked Cod Roe and Mendocino Nori Butter, served with steamed potatoes.

La Cocina Marketplace

Not a restaurant but a food hall jam-packed with interesting vendors. La Cocina, by the famous San Francisco incubator for low-income, female entrepreneurs in the food industry, isn’t shy on flavor - cuisines range from fiery Senegalese to smokey and rich Creole.
