Celebrating Juneteenth - African American Independence Day - in Oakland

This Juneteenth celebrate by eating, dressing, making music, and participating in all things Black-owned! This Oakland guide will lead you in all the right directions! With food made by the community for the community with restaurants such as Vegan Mob and Lois the Pie Queen! As well as bars and clubs especially designed to highlight the passions and pleasures of Black and Brown folx, like Sobre Mesa and AlaMar Kitchen Bar. Don't miss out on wearing clothes from these Black-owned brands located in the town! Modern and clean like McMullen, as well as upbeat and complex like Dope Era. Whatever it may be, it's sure to be nothing less than extraordinary. Taking the time to check in with oneself and provide self care is extremely important. In a world where we are being attacked for our minds and murdered for our skin we have got to share space with one another. It's the little things that make this all worthwhile, something like getting your haircut at A Little Off The Top Barber Shop, or picking through crystals and incense at Queen Hippie Gypsy

Being an ally to the Black community is supporting our growth. It is going to our restaurants and tipping the staff, it is shopping without bartering for a deal, it is being willing to go a little harder for the ones that need it! Shopping, eating, and dressing black owned can be done all year around, take the time to visit your local Oakland spots!
