Where to find the best Asian snack shops in Downtown Vancouver

Globalization and urban trends have made downtown Vancouver a place where you can find genuine Asian flavors if you know where to go. So if you´ve craving to try those Asian snacks you saw on a YouTube video, or if you´re just curious about the taste of that dish you saw on a TikTok reel, you´re headed in the right direction. From street-style Korean corn dogs and Japanese cloud cheesecakes to authentic Sapporo ramen, we've gathered for you the best spots to get your favorite Asian snacks.

Popular, Korean street-style food vibes: Chung-Chun

Affordable Korean Street food and rice dogs is the specialty of Chung-Chun. You can choose from more than 10 types of rice flour batter-wrapped corn dogs with spicy sausages, all mozzarella sticks or even a half sausage and half mozzarella cheese option. The batter-dipped sticks are coated with optional toppings, such as diced potato, chicken and even crunchy ramen! After you pay, you´ll have to wait outside a few minutes for the hand-made rice dogs to be fried and you’ll be called to pick up your order in-store. Don´t forget to try the Squid ink rice dog, and if you´re yearning for sweetness try the chocolate-filled rice dog and the milky iced coffee.

Modern Bubble tea vibes: Boba boy

Finding the right Bubble Tea could be a challenge, but going to any of the Boba Boy locations is always a win. If you´re looking for handcrafted tapioca and delicious beverages, this location is your next destination. You can find drinks like matcha milk tea, taro and Oreo milkshakes, fresh mango slush and more at this small shop inside the fare gates at Stadium-Chinatown skytrain station. (Easily entrance from Beatty Street and Keefer Place). Try your favorite milk tea flavor in an original tall reusable bottle for $2 more!

Japanese sponge cheesecake vibes: Uncle Tetsu

Grab-and-go dessert? Experience the simple yet unmistakable flavours of Japanese style handmade cakes. At Uncle Tetsu’s Cheesecake Factory, you´ll have the opportunity to watch the staff bake the different styles of soft and flavorful cakes through the windows of the shop while you line up. Their most popular cake combines the original cheesecake flavor with a souffle-like, cakey texture that jiggles like jelly but tastes fresh and sweet. It is definitely something you need to have on your foodie bucket list!

Asian local market vibes: Konbiniya Japan Centre

Known for their wide selection of Japanese snacks, drinks, appetizers and useful supplies since 1991, Konbiniya provides a great variety of convenience store products supporting the growth of Japanese gourmet culture in Vancouver. You´ll recognize the store because of the striking fake crepes sculpture beside the store (where Japanese Crepes are sold as well) and the giant Pocky boxes they have as visual merchandise. Inside, shelves are filled with all kind of goodies you can imagine like Pockys, rice crackers, sesame seed mochi, daifuku, cheap instant noodles, pineapple buns, egg rolls, bottled milk tea, calpico, kitchen items, face masks, and much much more!
