All of our exquisite teas are available for sale so that you and your friends and family can have the tea experience at your office or home! Don’t be tricked by our “tea house and cafe” label, Red Robe also offers delicious food with homemade recipes that can’t be beat by anywhere else. Our regular lunch and dinner menu offer quick and tasty food which is also available to-go. Aside from our tea, our chef’s dinner menu is where our business gets to shine. Our authentic Chinese cuisine is perfect for a private event or even a dinner outting. While we do ask that you call in to make reservations at least a day in advance, we ensure that your food will be prepared with the freshest and best quality of ingredients. Our menu includes dishes such as our savory Red Robe spareribs cooked with our signature Red Robe tea, plump scallops stuffed with prawns and we even offer vegetarian dishes like our Buddha’s Delight or marinated black mushrooms with bok choy. Your health is important to us too and that’s why we do not saturate our food in greasy oils or sodium and all of our food is MSG free. If you don’t see anything on our menus that you like, our staff and chefs will personally assist you in creating a dining experience according to your needs. Our name derives from the nostalgic light fires bring, we aspire to hold that sense of home into your experience with us. Grandpa’s Cafe is a Polish style restaurant and deli where you can eat original Polish food. Our family operated Grandpa’s Cafe offers delicious homemade cuisine. We have received a great deal of praises for the food and the atmosphere at Grandpa’s Cafe. Many said it is a hidden treasure in Portland. Aside from our extended holiday hours, the Cafe will be open one weekend a month.

Grandpa’s Cafe is a unique destination located at the historic Polish Library Building in Portland’s Overlook Neighborhood. Swine Bar boasts one of Portland’s best whiskey and moonshine collections, focusing on a large number of bourbons and house cocktails. Kachka opened its doors in April of 2014 in Portland, Oregon. Kachka is considered by many to be the best Russian restaurant in the country, and is the only Portland restaurant to be included in America’s Essential Restaurants of 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 by Eater, inducted into their restaurant “Hall of Fame.” Kachka was named one of GQ’s Most Outstanding Restaurants of 2015 and Bon Appétit’s Best New Restaurant nominees in 2015, and was a semifinalist for 2015’s James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant. In 2018, Kachka moved to a new, larger location in the Goat Blocks building on SE 11th Ave, and Kachinka was introduced to the original space. A cookbook of recipes, Kachka: A Return to Russian Cooking by Bonnie Frumkin Morales with Deena Prichep, was released in November, 2017 from Flatiron Books to critical acclaim.

FROM TALES OF MURDER TO bathrooms to the site of high school keggers, the ruins that are now known as The Witch’s Castle have lived a number of lives, and none of them were very pleasant.

In the mid-1800s, well before the structure was built, a man named Danford Balch bought a large portion of land around the area while Portland was still in the process of being developed. It was a big enough area that he had to hire help to clear the area, so he hired a man named Mortimer Stump, who lived in the cabin on the property with Balch’s family of 10. Over time, Stump and Balch’s daughter Anna fell in love, and eventually Stump asked Balch for his Anna’s hand in marriage. Balch refused, resulting in Stump and Anna threatening to elope. Balch became infuriated and told Stump that he would murder him if they did. The young couple didn’t heed the warning, and decided to elope in November of 1858.

Julia and Reid were both living and working in Beijing when they met in 2007. They were both huge dumpling fans, and Julia had developed a special connection to a man named Ma, who owned a dumpling restaurant near her apartment. Julia ate almost every meal there and eventually grew so close with Mr Ma that he showed her the secrets of making perfect dumplings.

When they left Beijing and came to Portland, Julia missed dumplings so much that they would often make them for dinner and share them with friends. Serendipitously one night, their friend Scott Simon, owner of the Karaoke bar, Voicebox, tried them and insisted they be added to his menu. Julia spent the next year making dumplings for Voicebox and crafting unique dumpling and sauce creations. She expanded her repertoire well beyond classic Chinese dumplings, experimenting with delicious and ridiculous variations. By the end of that first year, the demand was so great that Julia and Reid decided to open a food cart to bring their dumplings to more Portlanders.
