Space City
Everything’s bigger in Houston, home to the world’s largest space program, the global energy industry, the world’s largest rodeo, and summers hotter than a sauna. As the Lone Star State’s biggest city (and America’s fourth largest), H-Town is a rich cultural center with many ethnically diverse neighborhoods, several professional sports teams, plus more galleries in its Museum District than your boots can scoot through in one day. This metropolis has it both ways – down-to-earth enough for you to say, stroll along Westheimer’s funky shops and restaurants, but infused with enough oil tycoon money to have high-class cuisine and arts like the Menil Collection and the Houston Grand Opera. Hometown columnist Hubert Mewhinney once said, “Houston is a whiskey and trombone town.” Meaning this is a hugely important, rowdy, big ole country place to be.
