In 2012, Sacramento decided to change its name from the City of Trees to America’s Farm to Fork Capital. While the name change took a few years to catch on with the locals, there’s no denying that the food scene in Sacramento continues to evolve and expand as the city grows each year. Here’s a few spots for you to hit up for the next time you find yourself in this amazing capital city.

Trendy Coffee Shop Vibe

If you’re like me and need a dose of caffeine to start your day, look no further than Temple Coffee. Temple’s focuses on keeping things simple with good vibes, great service, and exceptionally well-prepared coffee.

Classic Brunch Vibe

The name alone let’s you know that it’s going to be good! Bacon & Butter serves up the classic comfort breakfast and brunch items that you’ll love! You can tell locals love this place by the long lines outside the door. From the giant sized flapjacks to perfectly made egg benedicts and biscuit sandwiches, you can’t go wrong. Make sure to get there early to avoid the long lines.

Hot Chicken Vibe

Ever since their food truck stepped on the scene in 2018, Nash & Proper has been a local favorite serving up Nashville Hot Chicken! After winning the Calling All Dreamers contest, they finally opened their first brick & mortar in downtown Sacramento. My go to spice level is medium but if you’re feeling brave, definitely try the Cluckin Hot to turn things up a notch!

Upscale Sushi Vibe

If you’re looking for high quality sushi and Japanese cuisine with a chic and trendy vibe, look no further than Kru Contemporary Japanese Cuisine. If you’re lucky to sit at the sushi counter, you can catch owner and chef, Billy Ngo, who has been featured on Glutton for Punishment, Man Fire Food, Cutthroat Kitchen and Chopped, wielding knives and torches to create some of the most creatively plated dishes in all of Sacramento.

Retro Glam Cocktail Vibe

Located in the heart of downtown Sacramento, SMIC’s is one of the newest cocktail bars that brings a retro glam vibe that’ll make you want to Instagram your whole experience. You can get drinks like the Blair Waldorf that’s served in a sugar rimmed martini glass that looks like you’re sipping on mini diamonds or grab your friends and order a round of chambongs (think a champagne flute that was made for taking shots because we fancy)!
