What if you really used your lunch break to reconnect with yourself? What would that look like? Reading a book in a dreamy location? Admiring public art and people watching? Maybe just sit for a few minutes and eat that savory meal... Here are some vibrant spots to add to your lunch docket and help you make the most of your workday.
Parasol Art Installation at Bentall Centre
Visit this immersive patio, outside the Bentall Centre in Downtown Vancouver, as part of a new public art installation by local design studio Tangible. It features trippy wooden steps, outdoor chairs of many kinds and nine-foot-tall parasols, that resemble something out of Alice in Wonderland- something fungi-like for sure! During the day, the place is incredible to kick back in the shadow, and you can find four stunning murals around the block.
Once the sun sets, these structures light up the evening skies with hypnotizing blue LED lights. With the entire patio illuminated, it’s truly a delightful experience that promotes a strong sense of place.
Chromatic Connector at CF Pacific Centre and at Colliers Canada
With social distancing in mind, this spontaneous “lounge experiment” by Tierney Milne incorporates undeniably fun shapes and functional forms paired with AstroTurf and picnic tables of so many colors to bring to life areas for eating, relaxing, and whatever else you decide to do on your lunch break. Catch this pop-up seating all summer long!
Blanketing The City IV: Cathedral Square
Reclaiming the urban landscape of Vancouver, this place boldly asserts the visibility of First Nations cultures. This is a public art mural series designed by acclaimed xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Weaver and Graphic Designer Debra Sparrow in collaboration with Vancouver Mural Festival and other two Indigenous women and artists: Chief Janice George & Angela George. Enjoy a bench or a seat on the steps, where you’ll enjoy the water fountains and admire the giant pillars colored with patterns of the Coast Salish weaving designs on these Indigenous lands.
