Supposedly, it rains all the time in Seattle. But when Tom Hanks is walking through a downpour in “Sleepless in Seattle,” that precipitation comes courtesy of a fire boat hosing down his floating home.

You can kayak past Sam Baldwin’s digs on Lake Union — it’s a privately-owned residence, last sold in 2014 for more than $2 million. The 1993 rom-com is at the top of a long list of movies and shows set in Seattle. Other notables include the 1963 musical starring Elvis Presley, “It Happened at the World’s Fair;” “Fifty Shades of Grey;” “Singles;” and the long-running “Frasier” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”

On screen, naturally everyone has a perfectly-framed view of the Space Needle, even if it’s geographically impossible. There are always shots at the iconic Pike Place Market, and the recently-departed Alaskan Way Viaduct.

So what if you spot an errant palm tree (a dead giveaway it wasn’t completely filmed in Seattle), you can ride the same Monorail as Elvis, walk along Alki like Meg Ryan. There’s a reason so many movies and shows are set in Seattle. It’s a beautiful city.
