Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park is a serene natural sanctuary nestled in the East Bay hills, offering a tranquil escape among towering coast redwoods. The park features over 40 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, as well as picnic areas and family-friendly amenities. Managed by the East Bay Regional Park District, it serves as a beloved destination for nature enthusiasts, outdoor recreation, and environmental education.

Mountain Yoga is a friendly yoga studio in the Oakland Hills, a stone’s throw away from most Oakland neighborhoods with a “get away from it all” feeling. We have classes of all levels taught by a diverse staff of exceptional teachers, and an open arms policy — we believe everyone can benefit from yoga!

Oakland is and always has been a beer town; a place where hard-working people would gather together to enjoy locally brewed, fresh beer. As the local population grew, Oakland was affectionately referred to as the “Milwaukee of the West” for its numerous neighborhood-based breweries.

Founded in 2009 as Linden Street Brewery, we became the first community-based production brewery in Oakland since Golden West Brewery closed in the 1950s. In 2017, following the sale of our building on Linden Street to a new developer, we moved our operations to the waterfront Jack London District and rebranded as Oakland United Beerworks.

Under the stewardship of Head Brewer, Ian Powell, and with the support of a team of dedicated Oakland craft beer enthusiasts, Oakland United is proud to continue the great beer brewing tradition in Oakland.

The Sausal Creek Watershed encompasses 2,656 acres in Oakland, California. The headwaters of Sausal Creek arise in the Oakland Hills and the creek flows through the city, discharging into the tidal canal that separates the island of Alameda from Oakland; the creek ultimately flows into San Francisco Bay. For approximately half its length, Sausal Creek forms a lush, seemingly natural riparian corridor, unique in this highly urbanized area. For the remainder of its length the creek is mostly culverted or channelized. Although approximately twenty percent of the watershed remains as open space, the watershed is an urban one, ranging from low-density residential development in the hills to a dense mix of commercial and residential uses in the lower reaches of the watershed. The watershed is home to approximately 27,000 residents of diverse backgrounds and cultures–African Americans, Asian Americans, European Americans, Latinos, Pacific Islanders, and Native Americans.

Like many of Oakland’s East African coffee shops, this Eritrean-run spot serves a hybridized menu — Eritrean breakfast and lunch specialties such as kitcha fitfit and Eritrean-style frittata (a kind of light egg scramble) in addition to a neighborhood coffee shop’s typical array of bagels and sandwiches. The must-order dish is the shihan phool, a fava bean dip that’s distinguished by its abundance of fresh toppings, which are arranged on the bowl like little smears of color in an abstract painting — the green of the finely chopped jalapeño, the red of the tomato, and the white of the raw onion and the crumbled feta cheese. Scoop it up with pieces of crusty French bread. Located directly across the street from the Temescal branch of the Department of Motor Vehicles, this cafe bustles in a way that few of today’s self-serious third- and fourth-wave coffee shops do, and the trellis-covered front patio is one of the area’s most pleasant places to linger.
