Welcome to New York! A walk down Gay Street, anyone?

Sure, the West Village is New York’s favorite gayborhood. And after you’ve explored all the gayest bars, events, restaurants, shops, and parks in the village, you could walk (or drive or take the subway) across the bridge to explore more of queer NYC. It’s true, New York never sleeps. That’s because New Yorker’s support for each other and pride in this city makes reality better than a dream. There’s no better place to be yourself and vibe with a group of strangers and friends, so make sure to check out every place in this Queer Guide to NYC.

Historic, Dancing, and Drag Vibes

The Stonewall Inn is the historic birthplace of Queer Liberation and a guaranteed night full of good memories, laughs, and warmth. (Or heat, which comes from dancing surrounded by a group of beautiful, like-minded people.) Stonewall has regular drag shows throughout the week, and Fridays and Saturdays shows are followed by live DJs and dancing until closing. (Find the stairs in the back to go upstairs for the dance party!) There’s also a pool table downstairs. Stonewall Inn is one of the many must-see queer bars in the West Village area (along with Pieces, Monster, Cubbyhole, and Henrietta Hudson to name a few).

Piano Sing-Alongs, Cabaret, and Comedy Vibes

The Duplex, located next door to Stonewall Inn, is the best place in town for queer comedy, cabaret, and piano sing-alongs. You can usually hear the sing-alongs from the sidewalk, and you won’t be able to pass without going inside to join in for a song or two! The Duplex also has an outdoor space. You won’t want to miss stopping by for a drink or two and a laugh. You may also want to walk a few steps over to Gay Street, which is a block long and quite charming (located between Christopher Street and Waverly Place).

Brunch, Jazz, and Chill Vibes

Did someone say brunch? After a night out on the town, you’ll want to start your day off with brunch at Elmo (also located in West Village). For brunch and dinner, Elmo serves American comfort food, and is great for date night or groups. They have live jazz and burlesque shows! Expect delicious food, exceptional vibes, and strong cocktails.

Food Truck, Tacos, and Happy Hour Vibes

Tacos, margaritas, queers, AND dancing? Yes, The Woods, located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, has it all. There’s an extensive taco food-truck menu in the huge, back patio area (covered in the wintertime) -- take a seat at their picnic tables. The Woods is a great spot for a daytime drink with a bite to eat, happy hour specials, and dancing at night. It’s also located half a block from Domino Park on the water, which offers exceptional views of Manhattan.

Beach Vibes

Want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and soak up some sweet oceanfront Vitamin D? Summertime hotspot Riis Beach, located south of Rockaway Beach in Queens, is accessible by public transportation or by shuttle (pick up locations in Williamsburg and Grand Army Plaza). There are plenty of affordable restaurants along the boardwalk, and a clothing-optional section at the far end of the park. If you’re looking for a safe space for sunbathing and good vibes, Riis Beach is awaiting your arrival.
