Portland is a ‘mirror of the world’ when it comes to finding authentic food from every culture and nation. If you are in the Rose City and you’ve got a hankerin’ for shrimp and grits or ‘Nawlins’ style beignets and a trip down south isn’t possible, don’t worry, Po’Shines Café de la Soul on North Denver will welcome you in the arms of Southern hospitality!

Settle in over a red and white checkered tablecloth and order the signature Pulled Pork Basket with a side of crispy hush puppies and a generous wedge of Sweet Potato Pie for dessert.

Founded by Pastor E.D. Mondaine, Po’Shines serves low-country Cajun food with flair. Featuring a full southern-style menu offering everything from creamy homemade Mac and Cheese, crispy Catfish Baskets with hushpuppies, fried okra, and red beans and rice, nothing is overlooked here. Settle in over a red and white checkered tablecloth and order the signature Pulled Pork Basket with a side of crispy hush puppies and a generous wedge of Sweet Potato Pie for dessert. Don’t forget to wash it down with a frosty glass of Southern Sweet Tea!

It’s no wonder that Pastor Mondaine would expand his humanitarian reach to create a community non-profit youth workforce organization called “Teach Me to Fish” that teaches valuable life skills for employment.  A graduate of the TMTF program, Chef Bradley has been instrumental in building the Po’Shines brand into an award-winning hotspot for dining in the NoPo district.

Po’Shines offers more than Southern cuisine. Located right next door in the quirky, cozy Kenton neighborhood is the Celebration Tabernacle Church where once a week Pastor Mondaine serves up a different kind of soul food by way of rousing and inspirational sermons.

It’s refreshing to find an independent restaurant that is not only committed to bringing the best of the South to the ‘left coast’ but also deeply committed to making its mark on the future of the community. Sounds like true Southern comfort, doesn’t it?
